Top Ten General Posts of 2012

Now that we’ve taken a look at the most-read fasting posts of the past year, I’ve compiled a list of the most-read non-fasting posts. The topics range from Americana to Prayer to Overcoming Adversity.

Some of the most-read posts this past year were:

1.  Is America a Christian Nation? More Quotes From Our Founders (May 5, 2010)

Take a look at these statements from America’s founders.  Our Founding Fathers, even so-called deists such as Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin, supported prayer and religious observance. And those who were Unitarian spoke fondly of Christianity and its moral system. Considering the rise of secular humanism and its militant attack against Christianity, the future of America is in jeopardy. Political action is important, but prayer is our only hope.

2.  How do I pray for lost loved ones? (November 11, 2009)

One of the most helpful, encouraging personal accounts of prayer for lost souls is found in The 2959 Plan by Peter Lord.  In this guide to prayer and communion with God, Peter shares a letter written to him by a person who saw dramatic answers to prayer — after praying ineffectively for lost loved ones for over 20 years

3.  Spiritual Dry Spells: The Ground to a Greater Miracle (August 13, 2010)

I was driving from St. Louis to Columbia, Missouri when I first heard this message by David Wilkerson. It was perfect timing, too. After the fast, I went through a dry spell that only increased in dryness for months. I learned from this sermons that dry spells always follow mountain top experiences or times when we have been blessed by God.  If you are on dry ground you are on your way to a great miracle. Dry ground is a pathway to the Promised Land. Its on dry ground that the enemy is defeated and the wheels of pharaohs’ chariots fall off.

4.  Miracle Ahead: Three Things to Remember in Times of Crisis (February 12, 2012)

A crisis, with no foreseeable way of escape, is the ground for a miracle from God. Therefore, we should take the following three steps in a season of crisis.

5.  Overcoming Adversity 101, Part 1: The Sovereignty of God (June 10, 2010)

The first step to overcoming adversity is accepting and resting in God’s sovereign rule. Adversity got the best of me until I grasped this scriptural reality.

6.  Pure Joy: Three Reasons to Rest and Rejoice in Affliction (may 12, 2010)

Are you facing heartbreaking, hopeless circumstances? Have you been perpetually stuck in a season of suffering and a pit of despair? You can experience God’s PURE JOY!

7.  Boundless Strength, Eternal Joy (April 21, 2010)

Are you weak and weary? In need of strength? Do you feel sad and hopeless? Are you facing an obstacle that no human maneuvering can overcome? What you need is boundless strength and eternal joy. They are found in one place…

8.  The Ultimate Test of Faith (February 20, 2011)

God lovingly allows us to go through tests in life in order to build our faith – to test and prove us to see what is in our heart.  Yet, we tend to crack under the pressure and respond in unbelief. We look at the scenario through human eyes rather than the word of God.

How are you responding to your current test of faith? Are you trembling in fear or marching ahead in confidence in the revealed word of God?

9.  The Problem of Pain: Is God a Cosmic Sadist? (June 3, 2010)

Last night I spoke with a woman who is in deep despair. “God could change all of this,” she said. “Why doesn’t He? I don’t understand…” If we are completely honest, we might admit there is a circumstance in our lives causing us to ask the same question. It may be a minor frustration…or something that causes us to cry out in total despair like Job, “My days have passed, my plans are shattered, and so are the desires of my heart” (Job 17:11).

Like Job, we may feel that life is hopeless. We may wonder why we should even continue on. Because Job was in a similar situation, the answer he found to the “why” question is enormously instructive.

10. Overcoming Adversity 101, Part 9: Sovereignty vs. Healing (December 31, 2010)

Should we accept a disease prognosis as our fate (and stop believing God for divine healing and personal promises) simply because in His sovereignty He allowed it to happen?
